In depth

Colour Squadron was strongly fancied for a very competitive chase at Newton Abbot yesterday and won't be running here if everything went to plan. If it didn't, he'd be a short price for this but SOUTHFIELD THEATRE looks a promising recruit to the chasing ranks. The six-year-old won and was placed in Listed company over hurdles last season and is preferred to the relatively unexposed Tara Road, already successful between the flags. The mare Prima Porta already has decent form over fences and there will be races to be won with Broadway Buffalo, Monkey Kingdom and Sea Current.

Broadway Buffalo (IRE) 1-5fav (10-12) Led, mistake 2nd, headed next, led again 5th, challenged when mistake 2 out, headed after last, no extra, 2nd of 3, 1 1/4l behind Lovcen (10-12) at Wetherby 3m 1f nov chs (4) sft in May.

Monkey Kingdom 25-1 (11-4) Led, mistake 5th, headed before 3 out, soon weakened, 9th of 12, well behind Lac Fontana (11-4) at Aintree 2m 4f nov hdl Grade 1 (1) gs in Apr.

Sea Current (IRE) 7-2 (12-2) Ld, disp ld from 3rd, 1l adv 5out, not qckn with front pair appr 3out, left 3l 2nd after 3out, ko one pce str, 2nd of 10, 8l behind Cappacon (12-2) at Ballyragget 3m ire ptp in Mar.

Southfield Theatre (IRE) 15-8fav (11-0) Made all, clear from start until before 4th, not fluent 7th or 8th, taken left before 2 out, driven and pressed flat, held on, won at Sandown 2m 6f Listed hdl (1) gs in Apr beating Polly Peachum (10-11) by shd, 5 ran.

Tara Road 8-1 (11-1) Held up in touch, chased leaders 4 out, ridden to challenge 2 out, weakened before last, 5th of 16, 16l behind Simply A Legend (11-1) at Ascot 2m 3f mdn hdl (4) gd in Mar.

Prima Porta 4-1 (11-12) Held up, headway 6th, lost place before 11th, closed 3 out, no impression on winner in 3rd after last, went 2nd and ran on well final 100 yards, unable to challenge, 2nd of 9, 1 1/4l behind Wings Of Smoke (11-12) at Haydock 2m 4f hcp chs 0-130 (3) sft in May.

Colour Squadron (IRE) 5-1fav (11-1) Tracked leaders on inside, headway 3 out, led briefly next, ridden and kept on approaching last, no chance with winner flat, 2nd of 23, 8l behind Ballynagour (10-9) at Cheltenham 2m 4f hcp chs G3 (1) gd in Mar.
