In depth

Verdict

Spidam gets the confident vote in this beginners' chase with Esprit Saint and Royal Paradise rating the main dangers. The selection was a good second behind Desert Air last time out and the form looks rock solid in the context of this race. He is in receipt of the weight for age allowance and he will be hard to beat. Esprit Saint rates the main danger on his latest second behind Quirino but he often finds less than expected off the bridle and at likely odds he looks worth taking on. Royal Paradise is another that could go well on his latest second behind the highly regarded Good Spirit. This looks easier and he will not be far away at the finish. High Chimes is from a yard in form and could go well at a price while Le Rochelais' best form is on a faster surface and with this in mind for the winner we return to Spidam who has plenty of ticks in the right boxes.
