      In depth

On A May Day is the tricky one. She looked a typical Mark Johnston improver before bombing out at Carlisle and coming home a well-beaten last of five. It's also typical of the yard to send her back into battle just a week after that setback and it's a hard prediction as to how she'll go around such an idiosyncratic track. Weellan is turning into a solid front-running handicapper for David O'Meara and it will be intriguing to see if the aforementioned pair contest pacemaking duties. Plenty of others have form to contend but if there's one to have the race run to suit it's HARVEST DAY. He continues to run well after a sequence of improved performances and this hold-up sort could pick up the pieces if they go too hard up front. Gabrials Centurion, Chai Chai and Glorious Player could all take a hand.

Weellan 9-2 (9-8) Soon led on far rail, joined 2f out, ridden and pressed over 1f out, narrowly headed inside final furlong, no extra and lost 2 places final 110 yards, 4th of 6, 2l behind Fakhoor (9-5) at Newmarket 7f hcp (4) gf in Jun.

Knighted (IRE) 10-3 (9-7) Led early, prominent, pushed along 3f out, switched right 2f out, lost place over 1f out, weakened inside final furlong, 8th of 11, 13 3/4l behind Escalator (9-4) at Doncaster 1m hcp (4) gf in Jun.

On A May Day (IRE) 2-1 (8-12) Tracked leaders, effort over 2f out, soon ridden and one pace, weakened final furlong, last of 5, 14 1/4l behind Equitant (8-10) at Carlisle 7f hcp (4) gf in Jul.

Chai Chai (IRE) 5-1 (9-7) Took keen hold, tracked leaders, ridden over 1f out, kept on same pace final furlong, 5th of 8, 1 1/4l behind Letsbe Avenue (9-7) at Newbury 1m hcp (5) gf in Jul.

Gabrials Centurion (IRE) 11-2 (8-11) Held up in rear, effort 2f out, went 4th, no impression, stayed on same pace, 4th of 5, 6 3/4l behind Gossip Column (9-1) at Chester 1m 2f hcp (4) gf in Jun.

Harvest Day 2-1 (9-3) Slowly into stride, held up in rear but in touch, headway over 2f out, soon switched right to challenge, faded final furlong, 4th of 5, 4 3/4l behind Kalagia (9-7) at Carlisle 7f hcp fll (4) gf in Jun.

Christmas Night 8-1 (9-0) Tracked leaders, ridden to chase leading pair inside final 2f, stayed on same pace final furlong, held towards finish, 3rd of 11, 1 1/4l behind Onefootinparadise (9-0) at Wolverhampton 7f stks (6) pol in Jul.
