Verdict

Maarek, who has changed stables, won this a year ago and would have a fine chance of completing the double if getting away with the field but a slow start has ruined his prospects in recent races. He was a couple of lengths behind Cape Of Approval at Cork in June but with a 5lb pull should reverse the form with Tommy Stack's charge. Russian Soul has never been a prolific winner but is generally thereabouts at this level but it's ARTISTIC JEWEL who gets the nod. Ed McMahon's filly has really found her form this summer and completed a double in Listed company at Haydock and Pontefract. She should be good enough though Cristoforo Colombo is the fly in the ointment as he reverts to sprinting after failing to last the trip in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket.
