Verdict

Aidan O'Brien has won five of the last six, interrupted by Rekindling's victory in 2017. The latter's yard attempt to win it again via last year's Irish Derby hero Latrobe, who has found 1m2f too sharp in all three starts this campaign including in last week's Wolferton Stakes at Ascot. Ballydoyle has three entries this time including SOUTHERN FRANCE, who makes a quick reappearance after a moderate run in the Hardwicke Stakes on Saturday. His earlier narrow defeat by Stradivarius in the Yorkshire Cup has obviously been advertised and he's probably best of his trainer's trio. He can come out on top here though there are plenty of dangers including Twilight Payment, close behind Mustajeer and the selection in the Vintage Crop at Navan and not beaten far in this last year. Frankie's presence on Raa Atoll is interesting as his mount beat the very smart Thomas Hobson in a Group 2 in Germany last month before running better than his finishing position suggests at Belmont.
