In depth

Verdict

Kandahar Run and Rochefort have both shown plenty of ability and look the ones to concentrate on with the former just getting the nod, Angel Rock and House Of Tudor are two newcomers to watch in the betting. Henry Cecil's charge was quietly fanced for his Sandown maiden and despite running green, finished a close second to Jedediah. The runner up ran well in a hot contest at the week-end so the form does look pretty decent. Rochefort was also runner up on his first start, finishing tow lengths behind the Barry Hills trained Yankadi, as with the selection there will be improvement to come and he looks a major threat. House Of Tudor looks to be the second string for Gosden but he is superbly bred by Medicaen out of a Reprimand mare. Meanwhile Peter Chapple-Hyam's Angel Rock boasts a Racing Post entry and so is obviously held in high regard. The Irish raider Mikhail Fokine is hard to assess, but the pedigree appears to scream out soft ground. So on this occasion we will ignore an O'Brien runner, maybe at our peril, but Kandahar Run is proven on the ground and the form stands up, he has to be the pick.
