In depth

Verdict

Island Light had both Calcutta and Muchea behind in the Shergar Cup Mile at Ascot last month and Alec Stewart's gelding should again have their measure. The son of Inchinor has run some of his best races when there has been cut in the ground and, with ground conditions to suit; he looks worth a bet under Frankie Dettori. Bryan McMahon's El Coto, a course winner in the spring, returned to form at Haydock last week and, along with fellow three-year-olds Flighty Fellow and Nuit Sombre has to be respected. The biggest threat to the selection though may come from York Cliff, John Gosden's gelding is less exposed than most of these, goes on the ground and the trainer's runners at this meeting are always to be feared. However, it will take a good one to beat Island Light, who gets the nod.
