        Verdict

        Local Hero and War Rooms both won first-time up and have the most scope of these. The latter was successful on soft ground over course and distance so has plenty in his favour. Ballydoyle’s Battle Cry won the Convivial at York, which is always a strong maiden, while Warm Spell built on a debut second at Goodwood when landing the odds at Newbury. It took Gushing Gold five attempts to get off the mark but DANCING GEMINI won at the third time of asking. The latter may hail from a less fashionable yard but he’s been making giants strides and the form of his Newbury success is working out well. He’ll handle any give in the ground and could be a bit of value in this. Power Mode has been highly tried since winning at Yarmouth but is upped in trip, as is Pontefract winner Royal Zabeel, but Kingdom Of Riches won over 7f at Leicester and Ice Max did likewise at Catterick.
