Verdict

MAGIC CIRCLE has been superbly placed to win three of his four starts this year. The handicapper is still playing catch-up with Ralph Beckett's three-year-old, who has already won over 1m4f here on soft going, and a 6lb penalty for a comfortable victory over a slightly longer trip at Haydock last week shouldn't prevent the hat-trick. Gabrial The Hero and Stonecutter both have a lengthy absence to overcome but William Of Orange and Noble Silk could figure as both have been keeping better company. Sir Mark Prescott's charge sweated up badly before the start of the Cesarewitch and ran no sort of race but he can reverse that form with Lucy Wadham's grey here if keeping a lid on his temperament, though neither have any real form on going this soft. Hardstone won at Ayr on only his second start since joining Michael Dods but Craggaknock has been in the handicapper's grip for a while and Hubertas has also been treading water lately.
