Verdict

The confidence in Bolshoi Ballet’s chances is reflected in both his odds and the fact that he’s Aidan O’Brien’s only representative. The Ballydoyle colt won the Derby Trial over 1m2f at Leopardstown in impressive fashion and can confirm running with both Southern Lights and Mac Swiney. The latter is a dual Group 1 winner in testing ground, including last month’s Irish 2000 Guineas, while three progressive sons of Frankel arrive on the back of victories. Both Mohaafeth and John Leeper, the latter partnered by Frankie today, won Listed races over 1m2f at Newmarket but HURRICANE LANE had Gear Up well behind when outbattling a previous Listed winner to land the Dante. Charlie Appleby’s unbeaten colt failed to find top gear until the closing stages at York and will relish this longer trip. Godolphin also run One Ruler and Adayar but the latter found Third Realm too good in the Lingfield Derby Trial, though Roger Varian’s improving colt tended to drift left in the home straight and that may prove problematic here. Youth Spirit won the Chester Vase on slower ground and Mojo Star is thrown in at the deep end having been beaten in a maiden at Newbury.
