Verdict

Only six runners but a fascinating contest nevertheless. The German raider, Boreal, was a head in front of Marienbard in the Dubai Sheema Classic in March and both hold claims although Frankie Dettori has opted for Godolphin's other runner, Kutub, who hit a purple patch last autumn. Marienbard returned this year with a victory in Newmarket's 12-furlong Jockey Club Stakes, where Storming Home was just under two lengths behind in third, Zindabad a neck further back in fourth and Kutub a further three-quarters back in fifth. Storming Home, fifth in last year's Derby and subsequent winner of the King Edward VII Stakes, has a three-pound pull today on each of his rivals and has shown that he acts on the track. Zindabad has since won the Yorkshire Cup. Pawn Broker has not really fulfilled his potential. The going should not present a problem to any of the runners. Hard to be confident about naming the winner but Storming Home just gets the nod.
