Verdict
Goodwood Spirit looks to have been found a suitable opportunity to open his account and is taken to do so at the main expense of Wingspeed and Chasm. The last mentioned is a newcomer from the stable of Mark Johnston that has done well with his juveniles this term. By Gulch out of a dam that won over this trip as a two-year-old, he makes plenty of appeal on pedigree and has to be respected particularly if the market speaks in his favour. Richard Hannon's Transgress has shown a respectable level of form but is more exposed than Wingspeed, who rates a bigger threat to the selection. Amanda Perrett's colt showed promise on his Newbury debut and there could be more to come from the son of Bluebird. The vote though goes to Goodwood Spirit. John Dunlop's colt has run consistently well in all three starts this term over six furlongs and has given the indication that today's longer trip would suit. With neither Beauchamp Trump nor Bold Diktator making much appeal, Goodwood Spirit should take all of the beating.
