Nonrunner

In depth

Verdict

A market check is essential with a mix of old stagers and unexposed sorts making up this field. We'll take Sunset Boulevard and Double The Trouble against the field with preference for the Alner runner. Fairoak Haitch is a possible improver whilst the older brigade are represented by the likes of Euro Import and If Only I Knew but there are reasons to believe that the two aforementioned runners have more to offer. Double The Trouble has failed to make the frame in 9 starts but has had little chance of doing so in a number of them and shaped with promise the last twice. He has stayed on quite well in the closing stages on both occasions and this stiff finish could be to his advantage. The selection attracted a little support in the market ahead of his handicap bow at Wincanton on Boxing Day but never looked like justifying it. He's a dual all-weather winner who has only hinted at ability for this game and he has run poorly every time he's encountered soft ground. That includes his latest outing so it may well be worth giving Sunset Boulevard another chance in a race that won't take a deal of winning.
