In depth

Verdict

ISLAND OSCAR is our preference to Penyfan Dawn and Society Venue. The Irish raider has previously been thought of as a soft ground performer but he seemed to cope more than adequately with a faster surface at Leopardstown last month and Tony McCoy has been booked. Penyfan Dawn finally got his head infront at Stratford. The yard had quite a few entries at the five day stage so it is to be hoped that this son of Bach has improved for getting his head infront. Society Venue does not have to carry a penalty and hails from a yard that have done well with their runners of late. Stormyisland Ahead has to be something of an imponderable on the surface as he is a son of known mudlark, Turtle Island. Supernoverre's last race over hurdles saw him take on a hopeless task against Champion Hurdle candidates so this is a much more realistic option. Island Oscar is the pick.
