In depth
Verdict
With high numbers best in Sprints at the Kent track, Bells Beach has a lot going for him and can score from Long Weekend, with Italian Mist, Largs and Feast of Romance having it to do from the stands side. Time and time again it has been proven that those drawn on the far side have a big advantage, especially when it has been raining, so Bells Beach, who will come out of stall 16, has more chance than most, given his recent form. Paul Howling's six-year-old has been plying his trade on Lingfield's Polytrack of late, and was successful twice on that surface in February. Although both victories came in selling company, this is not a strong event and he does at least line up in a bit of form for his return to Turf. Long Weekend, also drawn high, has also picked up a couple of wins on the Polytrack, and was ridden to victory by Dawn Watson in apprentice company at Goodwood last June. He makes appeal at likely big odds, more so than Italian Mist, Feast of Romance and Largs, all of whom admittedly have fair form, but have low draws to overcome. Bells Beach is the selection.
