In depth

Formwatch

Bach (IRE) Has had pelvic problems but appreciated drop in class to win listed event at The Curragh before career best performance to finish third (beaten three-parts) in Eclipse; a strong contender for place money.

Cape Town (IRE) Free Handicap winner in 2000 and has shown himself back to best with two wins this term; overall form suggests that he has something to prove at the highest level.

Distant Music (USA) Top-rated juvenile of 1999 (won all three including Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes) but failed to confirm promise last term although did manage Pattern success at Doncaster; has been slow to come to hand but back to form with smooth Group 2 success in Ireland (form has been franked since); goes well on fast ground and has a live chance at a decent price here.

Golden Silca Genuine globetrotting mare but needs more cut in the ground and faces stiff task at this level.

Black Minnaloushe (USA) Shock Irish 2,000 Guineas winner who proved it was no fluke when narrowly adding the St James's Palace Stakes (closely matched with Noverre, Olden Times and unlucky No Excuse Needed); unsuited by exagerrated waiting tactics in Eclipse; has excellent turn of foot and is proven on fast ground; sure to give another good account over optimum trip.

Darwin (IRE) Useful at best but will be used as a pacemaker for Black Minnaloushe and Bach.

No Excuse Needed Unbeaten juvenile (won Vintage Stakes at this meeting twelve months ago) and had no luck in running (badly hampered inside final furlong) behind Black Minnaloushe latest; unexposed and probably capable of better still, loves fast ground and has every prospect of reversing Ascot form with those who re-oppose here.

Noverre (USA) Tough, fast ground specialist who landed French 2,000 Guineas (subsequently disqualified for testing positive to illegal substance); narrowly beaten by Black Minnaloushe latest and every chance of reversing form from good draw in stall 11 (likes to race up with the pace).

Olden Times Landed Group 1 Prix Jean Prat over nine furlongs at Chantilly in June before excellent third (outpaced before finishing strongly) behind Black Minnaloushe over a mile at Royal Ascot; perhaps more vulnerable over this sharper track but has each way claims.

Ameerat Very game winner of 1,000 Guineas but slightly disappointing performance in Coronation Stakes latest; may find this tough against the colts and more experienced rivals.

Nicobar Dual Pattern winner but will find this ground plenty quick and likely to struggle in this company.
