Verdict
Hearthstead Maison missed Gordon Stakes on Tuesday, presumably with the view that this is an easier task, and Mark Johnston's colt is fancied to land the spoils at the main expense of Halicarnassus and Proponent. The selection was able to quicken clear with three still to run in a competitive handicap at Newmarket. The second looks a very nice horse and with that form appearing rock solid and the ground to suit, he should launch another bold bid despite a 6lb rise in the weights. Six Of Diamonds is undoubtedly better than his current mark but faces a tough task from out of the weights, whilst Emerald Wilderness has been in tip-top form since joining Ed Dunlop and whilst this is a step up in class, he should go well. Proponent looked smart as a two-year-old but showed very little on his reappearance. He drops in class and shouldn't be ruled out. Sahrati and Urban Spirit both won well last time out but face harder tasks, so of more interest may be Halicarnassus who drops in trip and in class. Many Volumes may well get closer to the selection than last time out if his jockey is on the ball, however Hearthstead Maison is fancied to win again.
