In depth

Verdict

MONTATAIRE was no match for the winning favourite at Ripon on his debut but Mark Johnston’s charge showed enough to suggest he can win a a race of this nature. Challow finished just ahead of Brise De Mer when they finished down the field in soft ground at Newbury but a newcomer will likely prove a bigger threat. Of those, the Godolphin colt Boynton is related to Graded winners in the USA and 180,000gns purchase, Mutawatheb, is preferred to stablemate Himself. Rebel De Lope is another to consider with an entry in the Group One National Stakes suggesting he’s shown plenty at home.
