    Verdict

A poor turn out for the money, but an intriguing contest nonetheless. Both Smokin Beau and Rushcutter Bay, like to force the pace so there will be no hanging around. Smokin Beau, turned in a personal best last time, in the Group three Palace House Stakes and will be difficult to beat. He had Rushcutter Bay well behind that day and although the latter will have improved for the outing, Smokin Beau is a horse at the top of his form. The interesting runner is Gateman, who turned in a solid performance on his return to this country, when a close third at York last week. He will certainly win races in the future, but may just find, that on these terms, he may just be taken along a shade faster than he cares for.
