      In depth

      Verdict

Shamwari Fire is consistent and is taken to come out on top over Cicatrice, Desert Hawk and Motu in a wide-open start to proceedings at Goodwood. Shamwari Fire's last win came at Folkestone last September, and since then has plied his trade at and around this level. The five-year-old showed signs of a revival at Pontefract last time, finishing third despite the rain-softened ground, and back on a faster surface should go well from his high draw. Cicatrice refused two out on his last outing over hurdles at Hereford back in May but did manage to get his head in front on the Flat, at Southwell in January. If fit enough he could take a hand in this weak affair, as can Desert Hawk who has the assistance of Richard Hughes. The selection's stablemate Motu finished down the field at Beverley but is better judged on his earlier Folkestone success. However, that was over seven furlongs and so preference is for the other McInnes runner Shamwari Fire.
