Verdict

Dominic Ffrench Davis won this race last year and the versatile Admirable Duchess who handles various ground conditions has solid claims. Mrs Boss has put in two better runs of late but has more to find against some in-form opposition. A drop in trip isn't sure to suit Sermons Mount who ran on well to win at Bath over a furlong further last time out, but the trip looks ideal for Texas Queen who started slowly over course and distance here most recently and didn't finish too far behind the winner. With a better start today she could go closer. Elhamri has been rated far higher than this in the BHA ratings and has steadily tumbled down the list over the past two years to a realistic looking mark. Miss Firefly may pose the biggest threat to our selection after a narrow loss at Bath but we prefer WITCHRY. Tony Newcombe's gelding ran really well when last seen here to finish a close second and only 2lb higher looks the one to side with, especially if there is any more rain as he thrives with cut in the ground.
