Verdict

In light of some of the results over the first three days of this meeting, a chance is taken that Audience can gain compensation for some near misses; possibly at the main expense of Battle Chant, Peeress (if she makes a quick reappearance after yesterday's exertions) and Unshakeable, who are all entitled to be involved in the shake-up. The last mentioned is 4lb better off with Pentecost on their Sandown form and should make a another bold bid today. However, the fact that he has only won a single race from each of the last four seasons underlines how hard he is to get right and he needs more than his share of luck to be forwarded as confident selection. Battle Chant was the subject of a huge gamble - that very nearly came off - on his reappearance and will no doubt be a popular choice to atone today. However, Kieren Fallon has not the best of meetings so far and, this looks to be one of the rare occasions where the champion jockey is opposed. Others worth a mention are: Impeller and Omaha City, who both go well here, while Uhoomago cannot be ruled out after his fast-finishing effort at Sandown last time. David Nicholls also has a sneaky one in there with Sawwaah, who has posted a couple of improved efforts of late and could go well at a decent price to make the frame. However, Audience makes the most appeal on the grounds of value as he has been running as if his turn is near. The John Akehurst-trained gelding was clobbered by the handicapper after his immediate impact as a two-year-old. However, as he is due to go up 3lb shortly, he can make the most of a good present mark if all goes well this afternoon.
