Verdict

Amateur riders' handicaps around this idiosyncratic track usually need approaching with a degree of caution as luck in running is paramount. Space War concedes weight all round but was a comfortable scorer for this pilot last time for a yard that enjoys a good record in such contests. He's a prime contender although his hold-up style of running is not ideal around here and gaps will need to arrive at the right moment. He may also find the concession of 11lb to the consistent CHRISSYCROSS beyond him. Narrowly beaten the last twice with Richard Hughes and Ryan Moore aboard, George Crate is taken to make a name for himself and go one better on this reliable Cape Cross filly. Piccolo Mondo, Balmoral Castle and Time Square are all in decent nick at present and worth a slot on the shortlist.
