Verdict
Not the easiest of races for the 'getting out stakes', but if the ground rides on the easy side Ace Of Trumps could just be good enough to get his head back in front, with Cyclonic Storm the main danger. Richard Fahey's filly is in excellent form at present, having finished first or second in her last three starts, including on this track and loves a stiff finish. Tough and consistent, she should be there or thereabouts. Tony Tie is not as good as he was but has a good record at this track, especially on good or softer ground. Jim Goldie's gelding ran better than of late in a competitive handicap at Carlisle and could go close off a favourable handicap mark. Finmar is consistent but may not want too much rain, whilst Top Of The Class likes it here and won't mind any rain, but looks in the grip of the handicapper after a wide margin win in an amateur riders event last month. Ace Of Trumps is a confirmed mud lover who has dropped to a winning mark, and will make plenty of appeal if the rain arrives. He was third at Ayr a couple of starts ago on ground that would have been plenty fast enough for him, and is now four pounds lower in the weights so we'll side with him.
