In depth

Verdict

It is very hard to be confident about naming the winner, with Natural Rhythm being selected ahead of Gin Genereux and New Colossus. The interesting newcomers are Mark Johnston's 18,000 guineas son of Cadeaux Genereux, Gin Genereux, Karl Burke's 36,000 euros son of Auction House, Johnny Friendly, Mick Channon's 90,000 guineas son of Dubai Destination, Meeriss, Eoghan O'Neill's 34,000 guineas son of Statue Of Liberty, New Colossus, and Howard Johnson's 58,000 guineas son of Invincible Spirit, Royal Sovereign. Alpine Adventure eventually showed promise after initially running green in the Brocklesby Stakes, while Natural Rhythm ultimately kept on well on his Pontefract debut with Smileforawhile, who started slowly, two places and nearly five lengths behind him. With the Brocklesby fifth, Turn And River, not entirely ruled out, it is a very hard race to assess, with Natural Rhythm given as a tentative choice.
