Verdict
CAPTAIN SCOOBY is back to a winning mark and can take advantage, with Cheyenne Red likely to emerge next best. The Richard Whitaker-trained selection enjoyed his only win off this mark of 72, that coming on soft ground at Beverley almost a year ago. Despite not winning in six outings since then, he has run with plenty of credit in defeat from higher marks and he has ground to suit, plus his optimum trip, so we give him the nod. Cheyenne Red is open to improvement after just four starts and his Thirsk maiden run behind Crimea reads pretty well in context here. With the yard going well and conditions again to suit he is very much respected. Granny McPhee has dropped to a much lower mark than the handicapper had first assessed her abilities and returns to a trip over which she has previously run well. She also acts on the going and any market support would probably be significant. Grissom is surely better than his last outing at Ripon, but does have a bit to prove as a result of it, while Fathey will surely not have to drop much further in the handicap before getting very competitive. Captain Scooby can solve this particular mystery.
