In depth

Verdict

In First Place didn't look suited to Chester and his close second in a York nursery was a good effort while stablemate Pudding Chare made a very encouraging start at Pontefract on ground faster than he may have enjoyed. Golden Apollo was always in the firing line when a close third at Ripon earlier this month while Kiribati will undoubtedly improve from chasing home the odds-on Blue Suede at Bath and looks better at this stage than stable companion X Rated. Frozen Kiss wasn't far behind the subsequent winner The Wagon Wheel at Beverley but in a tricky opener it's DAKOTA GOLD who gets the nod as he really caught the eye at Thirsk where he ran very green but would have finished much closer with a clearer run.
