In depth

Verdict

Va Vavoom can beat Monticelli, with Rebel Rhythm one to note for success later this season. The latter is highly rated by connections in fact and it would be no surprise if he were to make a winning debut over hurdles. They rate him so much in fact that his third in the Aintree Bumper was viewed with disappointment, and it will be a major shock if he does not make a name for himself this season. However, on this occasion the fitter pair, Monticelli and Va Vavoom may have his measure, and it is the latter that gets the nod. The Nigel Twiston-Davies team are in great form still, and ex-Irish point-to-point winner Va Vavoom nearly added to the score when short-headed at Market Rasen on his British debut. He will surely make a bold bid here and can make the most of the fact that Monticelli has a penalty to overcome. That burden was attained with a hard-fought victory over Darjeeling at Exeter and the ex-German Flat horse faces a better rival here. The three mentioned should have this between them, and we take Va Vavoom to come out on top, this time at least.
