    Verdict

Last year’s impressive Hampton Court Palace Stakes winner Sangarius by-passed an engagement at Newmarket on Friday on account of the fast ground. Recent rain here may have helped his cause and this is his best trip but also a much tougher assignment. BANGKOK won at this level last spring and was later second in the Group 2 King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot. He won the Winter Derby Trial at Lingfield at the start of the year in a hack canter but refused to settle in the big race itself in February. He might be the one to beat in this if on his best behaviour but Elarqam is much respected on his third to Japan in the Juddmonte International at York in August while Telecaster won the Dante just over a year ago before disappointing in the Epsom Derby and Lord North won the Cambridgeshire and a Listed race at Newmarket in the autumn.
