      Verdict

      Afaak was returning from a long absence when fifth at Newbury. Nugget was running well in some tough handicaps at the start of the season but hasn’t raced since just beaten in the Thirsk Hunt Cup in May and has been raised 4lb since. Cruyff Turn has enjoyed a fruitful season but couldn’t cope with a further 3lb rise at Ayr last week. A line can be drawn though LATEST GENERATION’s run in a Listed race over 1m2f at Deauville last time. Gelded since, he would have a chance second to none on his run behind Royal Fleet at Newmarket in July when well ahead of a couple of subsequent winners. Noble Dynasty has the most scope of these but was all out to win a lesser contest at Thirsk three weeks ago.
