In depth

Verdict

Tim Vaughan has a live chance with Withington and the market should help guide to his chance, however Kilcrea Asla has improved with each start in this country and gets the nod ahead of Downing Street. The latter could be interesting if he takes to the fences having fallen on his only try in the past. His recent runs over hurdles have only been average though and he needs to improve. Our preference is for Kilcrea Asla. Formerly trained in Ireland, the seven-year-old gelding comes here on the back of a good effort at Towcester. He shouldn't mind the return to a longer trip and on ground that suits, he looks sure to run well. The Spieler has evidently had his problems as two starts in three years shows; however he comes from a top yard and warrants respect. Any move for one of the point-to-pointers should be heeded; however it is Kilcrea Asla who gets the vote in this Beginners' Chase.
