Verdict

The amateurs get their hour and BUCKSTRUTHER appears the most plausible option with Athoss and Cherryland also respected. Alastair Bell's inmate accounted for Athoss at Corbridge last time out and with the trip no issue, the proven fast ground performer should have conditions very much to suit. Athoss has been consistent in point-to-points seldom out of the placings and in this maiden event, he is sure to go close. Cherryland stays forever and while the ground is of a slight concern, she is with a very useful trainer. Gun Smith was a promising bumper performer with Jonjo O'Neill but never quite achieved when sent over obstacles. He was in the process of running a smart race when coming to grief at Towcester last time out. Ardnaclancy has been disappointing under rules but has won between the flags previously. Father Murtagh was a winner in Ireland on similar going so do not be surprised to see money for him tonight. Poppy Day has been prolific in marathon events in the North though this will represent a much tougher assignment. Similar comments apply to Special Portrait, who won just six days ago at Whittington. An obvious chance for Buckstruther to get his first hunters chase under rules.
