In depth
Verdict
A chance is taken with Fireaway now that he has got his act together over fences and is selected in preference to Angel Delight and Kew Jumper, who are both capable in this company. The latter put a few modest efforts behind her when she won a mares only race at Ludlow at the start of this month. A 6lb rise looks fair in the context of this race and she is entitled to take her chance again whilst she remains in good heart. By way of contrast, Kew Jumper needs to banish the memory of a tired fall at Wincanton last month and the market should give us a good indication as to whether he has shown any ill-effects at home. He is a previous course and distance winner and it will be interesting to see if the return to Huntingdon sparks a revival in his fortunes. Another to bear in mind is Il Cavalier, whose yard traditionally did well here when Mary Reveley was in charge. Her son, Keith, has enjoyed a good spell of late and his charge could represent decent value for a place if he copes with the drop in trip. However, Fireaway is also a versatile sort that is getting his act together well at the moment and, as he also possesses a sharper turn of foot, he gets the vote today.
