Verdict

Take The Stand, a runner up to Kicking King in the 2005 Cheltenham Gold Cup, is not as good as he once was and while he has won on a soft surface before, Peter Bowen's gelding is undoubtedly better on a faster surface so he looks best watched here in a race taken to go to MENCHIKOV, who gets the verdict ahead of Nykel. The last mentioned has failed to complete in his last three starts under rules but ran encouraging in a recent outing in a point-to-point and he has to be considered on the pick of his form on his first start in a hunter chase. You Do The Math has a bit to find with Take The Stand on their running at Cheltenham when last seen in May but Charlie Longsdon's gelding will be more suited to the underfoot conditions than Peter Bowen's runner so he has to be respected. Yann's is capable and comes here fit form a recent start between the flags but he does need to improve on the balance of his form to trouble Menchikov. Useful when with Martin Todhunter, the nine-year-old regained the winning thread in a point-to-point a month ago and looks worth supporting to follow up back under rules.
