In depth

Verdict

Norman Mason's Nosam would be the most appropriate winner of a race run in the honour of the 2001 Grand National, stablemate Red Marauder, although Richard Guest's mount is probably better over shorter. Merry Masquerade has been a bitter disappointment since switched to fences but is well handicapped if able to reproduce hurdles form. The most interesting runner could be Ballystone, who is entitled to improve for his recent run at Ayr, his first since December, especially with further rain forecast.
