In depth

Verdict

Naxox escapes a penalty for the race that he won at Uttoxeter in December and the Venetia Williams-trained gelding looks the one they all have to beat, getting the verdict over Cash Man and Silver By Nature. The last mentioned disappointed when pulled up in a Haydock handicap last time and he looks worth taking on under his double penalty. Len Lungo's Briarhill Lad has given little sign for encouragement in two starts in bumpers, a comment that also applies to Hickory Lane. Cash Man has shown a consistent level of form over fences of late and could be of interest back over hurdles today but marginal preference is for Naxox.
