In depth

Caraline came back to form with a nine-length success at Wetherby but her ability to stay this far has to be taken on trust, especially as all-the-way Catterick winner Ramonex is likely to make this a true test. Katachenko almost upset the in-form Play The Ace at Aintree on his reappearance but, not for the first time, didn’t appear to relish a battle and he’s never won off a mark this high. TAKINGRISKS is two from two around here and his yard won this last year. He’ll strip fitter for a second at Doncaster when giving weight to an improver. Un Guet Apens might improve for the fitting of blinkers but it’s harder to make a case for Irish raider No No Mac and Nick Alexander’s pair.

Katachenko (IRE) 7-2 (11-9) Whipped round start, reluctant and lost many lengths, behind, in touch after 5th, not fluent 7th, slightly hampered 10th, went 2nd 3 out, edged left and led before last, headed flat, led again towards finish, put head in air briefly, headed post, 2nd of 7, shd behind Play The Ace (11-12) at Aintree 2m 4f hcp (3) hvy in Dec.

Takingrisks (IRE) 14-1 (11-5) Tracked leader, ridden to lead 3 out, headed 2 out, kept on and no chance with winner, 2nd of 6, 6l behind Markov (11-1) at Doncaster 2m 3f hcp (3) gd in Dec.

Ramonex (GER) 7-2 (11-12) Made all, drew clear from 3 out, unchallenged after, stayed on well, comfortably, won at Catterick 2m 3f hcp (4) sft in Jan beating Nefyn Bay (11-1) by 3 1/2l, 5 ran.

No No Mac (IRE) 33-1 (10-9) Held up in rear, not fluent 1st, fell 8th, at Aintree 2m 5f hcp (2) hvy in Dec.

Jet Master (IRE) 12-1 (11-9) In rear, ridden and headway before last, weakened run-in, 6th of 9, 7 1/4l behind Monfass (11-0) at Carlisle 2m 1f hcp (2) sft in Dec.

Un Guet Apens (FR) 7-1 (11-4) In touch, under pressure 3 out, weakened next, 4th of 8, 19 1/2l behind Saints And Sinners (11-6) at Newcastle 2m 4f hcp (3) sft in Dec.

Top Cat Henry (IRE) 8-1 (12-5) (h) (tt) in tch til wknd aft 14, 4th of 5, 34l behind Cave Hunter (12-5) at Hexham 3m gd in May.

Caraline (FR) 6-1 (10-2) Made all, ridden 3 out, stayed on strongly, unchallenged, won at Wetherby 2m 3f hcp (3) sft in Dec beating Special Catch (11-12) by 9l, 5 ran.
