In depth

Verdict

William Of Orange was never travelling at Aintree last month and pulled up but won a decent race at Haydock before that. MIRSAALE has been in terrific form on the Flat since last seen over hurdles. He beat Beeno here last September by more than four lengths and is only 2lb worse off. Another course and distance victory followed in January and he can defy top weight as though Oak Vintage bolted up over fences here last time, he has a lot to find on hurdles form and could face a battle for the lead. Martila may have needed her run at Ayr last month but it’s difficult to make a case for Coolmeen Hill in this company following a lay-off.

Formwatch

Mirsaale 33-1 (9-5) Slowly into stride, towards rear, headway on outside 2f out, went 2nd just over 1f out, ridden and no impression when lost 2nd inside final 150 yards, plugged on in 3rd, 3rd of 16, 1 1/2l behind Look My Way (9-3) at Chester 2m 3f hcp (2) gd in May.

Martila (FR) 9-1 (11-5) Held up behind, driven after 3 out, headway under pressure before last, kept on, not pace to threaten leaders, 5th of 14, 12l behind Dino Velvet (11-3) at Ayr 2m hcp (3) gd in Apr.

Oak Vintage (IRE) 3-1 (10-3) Made all, pressed 2 out, stayed on well to draw clear from last, comfortably, won at Kelso 2m 1f hcp (3) gd in May beating Ifandbutwhynot (11-3) by 11l, 7 ran.

Coolmeen Hill (IRE) 3-1 (11-5) Raced keenly, prominent, led 3 out until 2 out, chased winner, no chance when lost 2nd after the last, 3rd of 5, 16 1/2l behind Knockmaole Boy (11-12) at Perth 2m (4) sft in Aug.
