In depth
Verdict
Always Best should be of interest given his good effort on his hurdling debut in November but he hasn't been seen since and our preference is for SIR MULBERRY HAWK ahead of Catch Bob. Alan Swinbank's gelding has failed to get off the mark in four starts so far, but he is fancied to be a different proposition now tackling hurdles for the first time. A brother to Sir Boreas Hawk, he is likely to be more effective over a longer trip in time but he could be good enough to win today, with the seemingly never-ending home straight likely to play to his strengths. Catch Bob is an obvious rival; Ferdy Murphy's son of Bob Back has failed to get off the mark in four starts over hurdles but his effort behind Strokestown in January reads well and a repeat of that may be enough. Hunting Tower has his first start on these shores and is not one to take lightly coming from a shrewd outfit, whilst Dollar Mick and River Mint make their hurdling debuts today and cannot be overlooked, although the former will be seen to better effect over a longer trip. This looks a good bit of placing and Sir Mulberry Hawk can win on his hurdling debut.
