In depth

Verdict

Big Wave Bay is one of several potential improvers however PORT HILL has the solid recent form to his name and is preferred to Red Army and Shelfah. Mark Brisbourne doesn't send too many horses to the track but this gelding looks likely to run well following two solid second-placed finishes. His handicap mark was hiked up by 10lb for finishing second to Parhelion last month but he showed he can handles it with a fine second to Il Portico off his new mark. Red Army is bred to relish this longer trip and is interesting with Ryan Moore booked, Shelfah is another with a pedigree to suggest she'll improve markedly this year, whilst Big Wave Bay looks interesting with Mr Fallon taking his first sit on this Alan Jarvis-trained colt. Tallawalla is looking well-handicapped after two average runs, Miss Whippy needs a market check as she steps up in trip, whilst Sheila's Bond and Better Be Blue have some good recent form to their names. An open race, where the betting will help, but preference is for Port Hill.
