In depth

Verdict

Made In Japan gets the nod over stablemates Yourman and Wee Dins, while Arrayou is worthy of consideration at a bigger price for one of the places. The last named has bits and pieces of form that suggest he can shake up the principle contenders if he is in the right frame of mind to do so. And Oliver Sherwood's charge should not be underestimated on these terms. Wee Dins has been a consistent improver for her yard and will benefit from the Tony McCoy touch today. The flipside sees the Marju mare on a career highest mark, though, so she faces no easy task in what will be her 14th start of the year. Yourman may prove to be David Pipe's best option, as six-year-old showed plenty of promise towards the back-end of last season. Give underfoot will not be a problem for the David Johnson-owned gelding and he looks sure to make a bold attempt. However, preference just goes to Made In Japan, who reverts to hurdles on a comparable mark to his chasing ability. Winner of the 2004 Juvenile Hurdle at Cheltenham, Made In Japan is obviously a force to be reckoned with on his day and, as he goes well when fresh, this looks a good starting point for his 2006/07 campaign.
