In depth

Verdict

Prince Valentine is preferred to Only If I Laugh and Club Captain. Only If I Laugh is a consistent sort in this grade and finished a short-head in front of the selection last time but he does most of his racing over a furlong shorter trip and has never scored over a mile. He has gone close on occasion but this trip stretches him. Prince Valentine was doing his best work in the closing stages last time but has never won on the all-weather in nineteen starts. All of his wins have come over this trip however and, of his three successes, two have come for this evening's jockey and a big run seems assured. Club Captain finished in front of Only If I Laugh over course and distance in January but has failed to build on that in two subsequent starts. He's lightly raced and may yet be able to bounce back but we prefer the claims of Prince Valentine on this occasion.
