In depth
Formwatch
Second Wind was an impressive winner first time up last season and developed into a smart handicapper. This is his best trip and he won't mind the ground. Possibly still a shade high in the handicap but booking of Dettori is a positive sign and definitely one for the shortlist. Of the David Barron pair, Downland's second to College Maid on heavy ground at Newcastle would give him a decent chance here but has never won a handicap and overall seems to face a stiff task, so Kinan, who won over this trip on soft ground for Giles Bravery, looks the more likely option. Marsad has dropped to a very fair mark and has conditions in his favour here. Slightly disappointing at Doncaster last time and has yet to prove himself over 7f but with Quinn on board he cannot be ruled out entirely. Serra Negra is a very lightly raced filly who won first time up in soft ground last season. Not the easiest to assess, but cannot be ruled out entirely. Celtic Exit was an impressive winner at Goodwood last season and proved he handles this ground in France so a big run can be anticipated with Kieren Fallon booked, while Pat Eddery is a significant booking for Bintang Timor, who was second in the aforementioned Goodwood race last year and is now significantly better off at the weights. Caught the eye when running on over 6f last time out and he looks like the one they all have to beat. Slumbering is another to consider, placed in the competitive Spring Mile at Doncaster and a winner over this trip at soft ground at Sandown last year.
