In depth
Verdict
An interesting Handicap Chase can go to Avalanche, who is just preferred over Cameron Bridge, Royal Predica and Odagh Odyssey in a tight one to call. Kock de La Vesvre is another to consider as the return to a flatter track will be more to his liking a below par run at Cheltenham last time. The same sentiments about the track also apply to Avalanche, who as a previous course and distance winner has to be respected, but he is also well treated at the moment and he can make the most of the handicapper's leniency if he puts in anything like he is capable of. Cameron Bridge is an obvious threat after his victory here last November but all his best form comes on firmer ground and he may be best saved for another day. Therefore Avalanche is selected as the value call as the return to this trip on this ground is sure to bring the best out of him if he is in the right frame of mind to do himself justice today.
