In depth
Verdict
A competitive renewal of this famous race. Through The Rye has been done no favours by the raising of the weights and faces a stiff task now, giving weight away all round. Nicky Henderson sets a poser by saddling three runners. Non So is proven around here having won over the Christmas period, but he has more on his plate off a 6lbs higher mark, and the best of the trio could be Deep Sunset, who has been expensive to follow. She has obviously shown more at home than she has on the course, but it could be that she needs a strong pace (something she will get here), to bring out the best in her. There should be little between her and Hawadeth on their running at Sandown, but the latter went into that race the sharper of the pair having already had a couple of outings. Martin Pipe is mob handed and Anatar looks the best of his quartet. A progressive novice, he is still very much on the upgrade and is sure to be thereabouts. Rigmarole, Clarendon and Sonevafushi are others to consider in an open race, but the vote goes to the novice Porak, who was outclassed by Lord Sam last time, but he could be well treated on his previous four length defeat of Translucid at Ascot, with the 112 rated Sharmy a further 13 lengths away in third. Translucid then went on to win at Warwick to give the form a boost and it could be that the selection is well in off 116.
