In depth

Verdict

A small but trappy affair, with most of the field holding claims on their best form. Celibate had Peccadillo well behind when they finished third and fourth in the Desert Orchid Chase at Wincanton last time. He should be able to confirm that form, and at his best could play a strong part here. Hurricane Lamp has been knocking on the door all season but appears very one-paced and may have to settle for minor honours once again here. Bleu Superbe seemed to have finally got his act together with a couple of wins in May, but was disappointing on his last start at Market Rasen and is probably best watched here. There is a suspicion that both Just In Time and Duchamp are a little short of this class, so by process of elimination, the TEAMtalk selection here is Dorans Gold. Paul Nicholls' charge returned from an absence of nearly a year with a leg injury to win eventually in good fashion at Bangor at the end of last month. He still looked a little ring-rusty that day, and gave every impression that there is better to come. He seems quite versatile over both ground and trip, and off just a seven pounds higher mark is worth a chance to follow up.
