Verdict

HERMITAGE BAY came up just short when sent off the odds-on favourite at Southwell. But he was 12 lengths clear of the rest and the Gosden colt is preferred to the returning Cape Banjo. The latter found one too good in both starts at the track last year and drops back to 7f today while stablemate Justice Grace made a only a modest debut at Wolverhampton last month. Ice Age was still beaten seven lengths when second at Lingfield back in July but should improve this year along with Michael's Mount and Colonel Bossington.
