In depth

Verdict

It will not be easy, but Appalachian Trail has a solid chance of giving weight away all around and is selected ahead of Troubadour and Wise Dennis. A case can also be made for Ventura, who is on the upgrade and is respected as lively outsider. Amanda Perrett's filly takes on her elders for the first time though. And needs to be on her mettle to score in this company. Wise Dennis is a versatile performer that often runs meritoriously. However, this is his All Weather debut and as he appears to be best with some give underfoot, he is best watched on this occasion, so is reluctantly passed over. Troubadour won a competitive handicap on his penultimate start and obviously comes here in great heart. It took the former Aidan O'Brien inmate a while to readjust after his time on Hong Kong. But he now appears to be thriving and will be dangerous to rule out. Nevertheless, Appalachian Trail, who handles the surface, loves the trip and goes well in blinkers, has the more convincing profile. And Ian Semple's stable-star is fancied to push his career earnings beyond ¿200,000 with by registering his ninth career win today.
