Verdict

Hondalia, Forest Pennant and Notabotheronme are the three against the field here with preference for Forest Pennant. After one bumper run in a hot Newbury contest where he finished down the field, Hondalia was sent off an unconsidered outsider for his hurdling bow. He ran a blinder, leading at the second last until fading to finish third, not beaten far. He will have benefitted from the experience. Phillip Hobbs has had a fine season to date and his representative here Notabotheronme, looks a useful type. He has had just the one bumper run to date, finishing a close second, staying on in good style at the finish. He is tackling hurdles for the first time but is sure to have been well schooled, and hails from a winning jumping family. Forest Pennant is another who makes his hurdling bow, representing Paul Nicholls. He needed three runs last season to get off the mark, but was very impressive when he scored at Kempton on his latest start. He has more runs under his belt than his principal rivals, and with the Nicholls camp among the winners, Forest Pennant is given the vote.
