Verdict
That all 12 of these have ratings tells you something about the race's quality, but this poor race can be won by RASSELAS; Jack O'lantern, Jimmy The Poacher and Beaumont's Party are just about the pick of the opposition. Our pick gets the vote on account of his consistency, having gone close in both handicaps and maidens of late. Furthermore he rated an unlucky loser last time, having been set far too much to do over a mile at Chester. With that in mind dropping back in trip wouldn't be necessarily ideal, but we're hopeful he's given a positive ride. Jack O'lantern tries headgear for the first time and that may enable further improvement. He's been thoroughly disappointing so far this term but his first couple of efforts in maiden company read very well and connections have found a weak race. Beaumont's Party was keen over a mile last time and looks worth trying back over this distance; indeed his first two runs in maidens were over seven and he's yet to better them, so it'd be no surprise were he to improve on his fair handicap effort last time. Jimmy The Poacher looked to suffer for a lack of stamina when second over a mile last time so dropping in trip also enters calculations, while the nicely bred Redden should be better than this and needs a market check. Quaestor's Irish form would give him strong claims with the yard now going better and On The Cusp doesn't have as much to find as the figures would imply, however Rasselas is the one we narrowly preferred.
